How to Pave Your Way to Singapore for Graduation
When to Apply for the Singapore Visa?
It is recommended to apply for a student visa for Singapore at least two months before the start of classes or the academic semester, as universities usually require applications to be submitted a month before. The visa application process can be quick, with decisions typically made within 15 days to a month, but additional information may be requested or an interview at the embassy may be necessary, which can prolong the process up to four months.
Types of Visas that Singapore Offers to students
Based on the duration of the course:
The type of student pass required for studying in Singapore depends on the duration of the program. A short-term pass is suitable for students enrolled in certificate or diploma courses, which are usually less than 3 months long. For those pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree, a long-term pass is necessary.
Based on the type of the course
The student pass issued in Singapore typically includes information about the specific program or course of study being pursued. The country offers a diverse range of educational options for international students, including diplomas, certificate programs, vocational training, and both undergraduate and graduate-level courses.
Documents Required
To apply for a student visa in Singapore, the following documents are typically required:
- A valid passport
- Two recent passport-sized photographs
- A completed student's pass application form
- A letter of acceptance from an educational institution in Singapore
- Evidence of financial support, such as bank statements or a letter of sponsorship
- A medical examination reports
- A police clearance certificate
- Other documents as specified by the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA)
It's important to note that the specific requirements may vary depending on the student's country of origin and the type, of course, they are applying for, so it's always best to check with the ICA or the educational institution for the most up-to-date information.
Fee Charged
Visa Processing
When applying for a student visa in Singapore, the applicant will be required to pay a non-refundable processing fee of SGD 30 at the time of submitting the application to the Singapore ICA. This fee can be paid through internet banking or debit/credit card if submitting the application through the SOLAR system.
Visa Issuance
In addition to the visa processing fee, a student pass issuance fee of SGD 60 will also be required to be paid for each student pass issued in the student's name. If the student plans to leave and re-enter Singapore during their academic course, an additional fee of SGD 30 for multiple entries will be required. Both of these fees must be paid at the time of collecting the student pass.
Application Process
Institution's Initial Application Submission:
Before an international student submits an application for a student pass through SOLAR, the educational institution is required to register the student with SOLAR by providing the following information:
Student's personal information, including name, date of birth, gender, and nationality
Information about the course, including start and end dates
A reference number is generated through the SOLAR application.
Student's Submission of eForm 16
After the educational institution has completed the registration process for the student, the student can then log in to SOLAR to submit eForm 16. To do so, the student must have the following information on hand:
A registration acknowledgment notice with the login information provided by the institution
Passport details, including number and expiration date
Singapore contact and residential information, or the institution's registered address if the student does not have a Singapore address
The student's email address
One recent passport-sized colour photograph.
Work Permit
International students in Singapore are allowed to work part-time for up to 16 hours per week without a work permit. However, during holiday breaks, students are permitted to work full-time without any visa restrictions.
After completing their degree program, if students wish to seek employment in Singapore, they may apply for a one-year Visit Pass through the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) by submitting an application online through e-VP.
Common problems students face during their SAT prep
Students preparing for the SAT may face a variety of challenges. Some common problems include:
- Time management: Balancing schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and studying for the SAT can be difficult. Students may struggle to find enough time to study and prepare for the test.
- Test anxiety: Some students may experience anxiety or stress leading up to the test, which can negatively impact their performance.
- Difficulty with test content: Some students may struggle with certain sections of the test, such as math or writing, and may need extra help or practice in those areas.
- Lack of motivation: Some students may lack the motivation or interest to study and prepare for the test, which can make it more difficult to achieve a good score.
- Financial constraints: Some students and their families may not have the financial resources to afford test preparation materials or a tutor.
- Difficulty with the format of the test: The format of the test may be unfamiliar to students and they may not be used to taking a test in that format.
- Difficulty with the timing of the test: Some students may struggle with the time constraint of the test, especially when they are not used to taking tests under time pressure.
It's important for students to address these challenges and find solutions that work for them, such as getting help from teachers or tutors, using study guides or practice tests, or developing better time-management strategies.
