There is a reason people say “one size does not fit
all,” and NTU
Singapore admissions is a perfect example. You may see one
student worrying about IELTS, another preparing AP exams, and someone
else applying with nothing beyond their school-leaving results. All
three could be applying to the same university.
That is because Nanyang Technological University does not use one
universal international-student checklist. Your requirements depend on
the qualification you study, the programme you choose and, in
some cases, when your final results become available. Fees also
change depending on your programme and whether you receive Singapore’s
MOE Tuition Grant. This guide brings the current AY2027–28
admission dates and the latest available 2026 fee information
together so you know what actually applies to you.
What
do you need to get into NTU Singapore in 2027
The first thing to understand is that meeting NTU’s minimum
requirements only makes you eligible for consideration.
It does not guarantee an offer.
For international applicants, NTU assesses students according to
their high-school qualification and the subject requirements of the
programme they select. The university explicitly notes that admission is
highly competitive, particularly for international students because
places are limited, and admission standards can change across programmes
and admission years. Corporate
NTU
In practice, a strong application needs to get several things right
at once. Your school qualification needs to be recognised by NTU, your
academic performance needs to be competitive, you must satisfy any
programme-specific subject prerequisites, and you must provide
English-language or additional testing where your qualification requires
it.
The most important distinction is:
Being allowed to apply and being competitive enough to
receive an offer are two different things.
That is why searching for one universal NTU cutoff can be
misleading.
Which
NTU admission route applies to your school qualification
Before comparing your marks with another applicant’s, check whether
the two of you are even applying through the same route.
NTU publishes separate
admission requirements for qualifications including the
IB Diploma, UK A Levels and Cambridge Pre-U, American High
School Diploma with AP, India Standard 12, HKDSE, Australian
qualifications, Canadian qualifications, STPM, UEC, Gaokao, Sri Lankan A
Levels, Indonesian Ijazah SMA, Vietnamese High School Graduation
Certificate and many other national systems. Qualifications
that do not have their own category are assessed through NTU’s “Other
International Qualifications” route.
The differences can be significant.
For example, the current American High School route requires strong
academic performance together with at least five AP tests with
scores of 4 or 5 for international applicants. AP Calculus BC
is required for several Engineering, Science and data-related
programmes, while AP Physics C is required where Physics is a programme
prerequisite.
For India Standard 12, NTU currently publishes a minimum average of
93% including English, with certain language and
technical subjects excluded from that calculation. NTU also makes clear
that 93% is a minimum to apply, not an admission guarantee.
Australian applicants currently need an ATAR of at least
95 under the applicable qualification route, together with
strong performance in required subjects.
These examples are useful for one reason: they show why you should
not take somebody else’s NTU requirement and assume it applies to
you.
Are
your grades strong enough for the NTU programme you want
Once you know your qualification route, the next question is not
simply “Are my marks good enough for NTU?”
It is:
“Are my academics strong enough for the specific programme I
want?”
NTU publishes minimum subject requirements for
individual programmes. That means strong overall academic performance
may still not make you eligible if your subjects do not satisfy the
prerequisite for a particular degree.
This matters particularly for courses involving Mathematics, Physics,
Chemistry and other specialised academic preparation. The American
qualification route, for example, specifically requires AP Calculus BC
for Engineering and most Science programmes, and AP Physics C where
Physics is required.
NTU also repeatedly states on its international qualification pages
that admission standards vary from year to year and programme to
programme. More competitive double degrees, double majors and
second-major combinations can demand stronger profiles than a
single-degree programme.
So if you meet the published minimum, treat that as the
starting line rather than a target score.
A useful way to assess yourself is to check three things together:
your qualification’s minimum requirement, the subject prerequisites of
your chosen programme, and how competitive your overall academic record
is within your school or national system.
Do you need
IELTS TOEFL SAT or ACT for NTU
Not every international applicant needs the same test.
NTU specifically requires approved English-language evidence from
applicants presenting certain high-school qualifications. It also
requires it where English was not the medium of instruction or appears
as a second or additional language under applicable qualification
routes. Other students may already satisfy NTU’s English requirement
through their school background.
Current commonly accepted scores include:
| Test | Current published NTU requirement |
|---|---|
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 overall, with 6.5 in Writing and Speaking |
| TOEFL / TOEFL iBT Home Edition | 90 overall under the applicable older scale or 4.5 under the newer scale, with NTU’s stated component requirements |
| PTE Academic | 55 overall, with 55 Speaking and 59 Writing |
| C1 Advanced | 170 overall, including 170 in Writing and Speaking |
| SAT | 1250 overall with NTU’s stated Reading and Writing requirement |
| ACT with Writing | 30 composite, 30 English and 7 Writing |
NTU currently accepts recent IELTS, TOEFL, PTE and C1 Advanced scores
within the stated validity period, while SAT and
ACT scores are accepted for up to five years from the test date
under the relevant international routes. Corporate
NTU
But there is an important point students often miss.
SAT and ACT are not universal admission requirements for
every NTU international applicant.
Under the India Standard 12 route, for example, NTU says that JEE
Main is not required and does not enhance admission chances. A strong
JEE Advanced ranking can be viewed favourably, but it is not a
compulsory admission test. If English is the medium of study, taking an
additional English-proficiency exam also does not improve admission
chances under that route. Corporate
NTU
By contrast, other qualifications can require additional academic
tests. Applicants using some qualifications under NTU’s “Other
International Qualifications” category may need at least three AP tests
with grades of 4 or 5. Corporate
NTU
So before registering for another exam, check the exact NTU
page for your qualification. You may need the test, or you may
be preparing for something NTU never asked you to submit.
Does
your chosen NTU course ask for anything extra
For many courses, the academic application is enough. For some, it is
only the beginning.
If Art, Design and Media is among your choices, NTU
requires additional creative materials. For AY2027 admission, the School
of Art, Design and Media currently requires a portfolio and ADM
assignments, which include an introduction video and additional creative
work. Late submissions are not reviewed.
Applicants to the Renaissance Engineering Programme
need additional application material, including a personal statement and
an online reference report. Shortlisted applicants can also be
interviewed.
For LKCMedicine, the process is considerably more
involved. Applicants need a valid UCAT result, a personal statement and
two online referee reports. Shortlisted students are invited to Multiple
Mini-Interviews.
Some teacher-education programmes also require an additional Ministry
of Education form, and other courses can involve programme-specific
interviews or assessments.
This is why checking only the general NTU admissions page is not
enough. Once you shortlist a degree, check whether that
programme adds another deadline, test, portfolio or reference
requirement.
Does NTU
look at anything beyond your grades
Yes, although strong academics still matter.
NTU has an Aptitude-Based
Admissions pathway, or ABA, for students with
exceptional talents or notable achievements beyond ordinary school
co-curricular involvement. NTU explicitly says grades are one part of
its assessment and encourages students with relevant strengths to
present those achievements through ABA.
Students using ABA provide details of their achievements, complete
short responses of up to 200 words each, and submit at
least one and up to two online appraisals. Shortlisted applicants may
then be interviewed and asked for supporting evidence.
That could include genuine strength in research, competitions,
entrepreneurship, leadership, sport, the arts, community work, technical
projects or another field where you have demonstrated significant
aptitude.
The important word is significant.
ABA should not become a reason to turn every activity into an award
or leadership story. Its purpose is to give NTU additional evidence
about a student whose interests or achievements add something meaningful
beyond grades.
And it does not remove programme prerequisites. A strong
extracurricular profile cannot replace a compulsory Mathematics or
Physics requirement.
What
documents should you have ready before starting the NTU
application
The exact checklist changes by qualification, but the application
usually brings together your personal details, education record,
programme choices, academic results and qualification-specific
supporting evidence.
| Application item | What to check |
|---|---|
| Online application | Use the portal linked to your correct qualification |
| Academic records | Upload the results and transcripts required for your route |
| Identification | Prepare the ID/passport information requested in the form |
| English-language result | Submit it only where your route requires one |
| Additional academic testing | AP, SAT, ACT or other evidence where applicable |
| Programme-specific material | Portfolio, UCAT, personal statement, references or other items if required |
| ABA information | Complete if applying through Aptitude-Based Admissions |
| Application fee | S$25 for international applicants |
| Supporting documents | Submit within the deadline shown for your qualification |
The undergraduate application fee is currently S$25 for
international students, compared with S$15 for Singapore
citizens and permanent residents. NTU states that an application cannot
be processed until the fee and required supporting documents are
received within the stipulated deadlines.
After submission, the application-status portal is also where
students can pay the fee, view their document checklist, complete
required declarations, update applicable ABA information, apply for
scholarships and check their eventual admission outcome.
When is your NTU application deadline for 2027
This is where students need to be especially careful because NTU does
not have one deadline for every international
qualification.
For AY2027–28, applications for international
qualifications open on 15 October 2026. As of this
article’s review date, that opening date is tomorrow, and NTU has
already published the qualification-specific closing dates.
| Qualification | AY2027 application window |
|---|---|
| IB Diploma | 15 Oct 2026 to 19 Mar 2027 |
| American High School Diploma with AP | 15 Oct 2026 to 19 Mar 2027 |
| India Standard 12 | 15 Oct 2026 to 19 Mar 2027 |
| UK A Levels / Cambridge Pre-U | 15 Oct 2026 to 19 Mar 2027 |
| HKDSE | 15 Oct 2026 to 19 Mar 2027 |
| Sri Lanka A Levels | 15 Oct 2026 to 19 Mar 2027 |
| Brunei GCE A Level | 15 Oct 2026 to 19 Mar 2027 |
| French, Spanish or European Baccalaureate | 15 Oct 2026 to 19 Mar 2027 |
| Australian qualifications | 15 Oct 2026 to 20 Jan 2027 |
| Canadian Ontario / British Columbia qualifications | 15 Oct 2026 to 20 Jan 2027 |
| Indonesian Ijazah SMA | 15 Oct 2026 to 20 Jan 2027 |
| Malaysia UEC | 15 Oct 2026 to 20 Jan 2027 |
| Philippines Grade 12 | 15 Oct 2026 to 20 Jan 2027 |
| South Korean qualification | 15 Oct 2026 to 20 Jan 2027 |
| Other international qualifications | Generally 15 Oct 2026 to 20 Jan 2027 |
NTU’s current admissions schedule also states that supporting
documents for international qualifications should generally be uploaded
according to the checklist within three days after the
application closing date, although programme-specific materials
such as an ADM portfolio can have their own deadlines.
For example, an IB student applying by 19 March 2027 currently has
until 22 March 2027 for supporting documents, while the
ADM additional-material deadline remains 19 March.
So don’t keep only one date in your calendar. You may have separate
deadlines for the application itself, supporting documents, references,
testing or programme-specific material.
How
much does NTU cost for an international student
This section needs one important 2026 clarification.
NTU has not yet published the complete AY2027–28
undergraduate tuition table. As of October 2026, the latest
confirmed full-time undergraduate fee schedule is
AY2026–27. Those numbers are therefore the best current
benchmark for a student planning for 2027, but they should not be
presented as confirmed AY2027–28 fees.
For students who accepted an offer in 2026, NTU lists the following
annual tuition:
| Programme | ASEAN international student with Tuition Grant | Other international student with Tuition Grant | Without Tuition Grant |
|---|---|---|---|
| Most programmes | S$18,050 | S$21,400 | S$36,350 non-lab / S$40,600 lab |
| Accountancy, Business and listed related programmes | S$20,700 | S$21,800 | S$45,600 |
| Medicine | S$80,850 | S$91,250 | Not applicable |
| Renaissance Engineering Programme | S$31,000 | S$32,000 | Not applicable |
These published international-student amounts include the prevailing
GST where NTU specifies it.
NTU uses a cohort-based tuition system for full-time
undergraduate degrees. This means the applicable tuition fee for a
cohort is fixed for the normal duration of the programme rather than
being reset every year during the student’s candidature.
For a Fall 2027 applicant, the sensible approach is therefore to use
the 2026 table for planning and then update the budget once NTU
publishes the AY2027–28 rates.
Why
can two international students pay different NTU fees
Two students in the same university can see very different tuition
figures without either one having the wrong information.
Three factors explain most of the difference.
First, NTU currently has a separate subsidised tuition rate for
ASEAN international students and for international
students from outside ASEAN. For most programmes in AY2026–27, that
difference is S$18,050 versus S$21,400
annually.
Second, the programme matters. Business and certain
related degrees use a different tuition rate, while Medicine and the
Renaissance Engineering Programme have significantly higher subsidised
fees.
Third, the largest difference often comes from whether you receive
the MOE Tuition Grant. An international student
studying a typical non-lab programme without the grant currently pays
S$36,350 non-lab / S$40,600.
So when somebody tells you, “NTU costs around S$20,000 a
year,” the next questions should be:
Which programme? Which international-student category? And
with or without the Tuition Grant?
Without those details, the number does not tell you enough.
Should
you take the MOE Tuition Grant or pay the full fee
For many international students, this is a bigger decision than it
first appears.
Singapore’s MOE
Tuition Grant subsidises a substantial portion of
undergraduate tuition. International students who accept the grant must
enter into a Tuition Grant Agreement and are generally required to
secure employment and serve in a Singapore entity for three
years after graduation.
The financial benefit can be substantial. Using NTU’s current
AY2026–27 rates, an international student outside ASEAN in a typical
programme pays S$21,400 with the grant compared with S$36,350
for a non-lab programme or S$40,600 for a lab-based programme without
it.
But the decision should not be made on tuition alone.
If you take the grant, you need to be comfortable with the
post-graduation service obligation. NTU also currently requires
international recipients to register for the grant after accepting both
the programme and Tuition Grant offers and to provide two
eligible sureties for the agreement.
If you choose not to take the Tuition Grant, you pay the full
unsubsidised tuition rate and do not carry that three-year Tuition Grant
work obligation.
The better question is therefore not:
“Which option is cheaper?”
It is:
“Is the tuition saving worth the commitment this option asks
me to make after graduation?”
What will NTU
cost beyond the tuition fee
Tuition is only one part of the budget.
NTU’s current international-student guidance estimates typical
monthly expenses at around S$1,300 to S$1,600,
excluding accommodation and expenses during vacation periods. It
separately estimates textbooks and course materials at around
S$200 to S$500 per academic year.
The monthly estimate covers areas such as meals, personal expenses,
local transport and telecommunications. Accommodation is additional and
varies according to hall and room type. NTU currently guarantees
first-year undergraduate students the opportunity for on-campus housing,
subject to the university’s matriculation and accommodation
procedures.
Students should also remember miscellaneous university fees,
Student’s Pass-related costs, medical screening, initial travel and
relocation expenses.
For budgeting, avoid taking tuition and calling it your “annual NTU
cost.” A better plan is:
tuition + housing + monthly living expenses + university fees
+ initial international-student costs.
How
does the NTU application work once you start
NTU’s application system is qualification-based, so your first job is
to enter through the correct application route. Once you complete and
submit the online form successfully, you receive an application number
and access to the application-status menu.
From there, you can see what remains incomplete, pay the S$25
international application fee, upload required supporting documents,
complete the criminal-record declaration, review programme choices
before the closing date and finish any ABA or programme-specific
requirements. The same portal is later used to check the admission
outcome.
If you applied to a programme with additional requirements, those
steps sit alongside the standard application. For example, ADM
applicants upload their creative submission, REP applicants provide
additional written and referee material, and Medicine applicants
complete the UCAT and referee components required by LKCMedicine.
One detail is worth repeating:
Submitting the online form is not the same as completing the
application.
NTU says the application cannot be processed until both the required
fee and supporting documents arrive within their deadlines.
When
will you hear back from NTU after applying
There is no single decision date for every international
applicant.
NTU says that it generally begins sending offers from
March, but timing depends on the applicant’s qualification,
programme and when the university receives the final academic results
needed for assessment.
For IB applicants in the current AY2027 schedule, admission outcomes
are expected between March and May 2027 for the
applicable route. Students taking the May 2027 IB examination can still
apply by 19 March and must then provide NTU direct access to final IB
results by the stated later deadline.
Applicants using other international qualifications can have
different outcome timelines, particularly where final national
examination results arrive later.
That means seeing another student receive an offer in March does not
automatically mean something is wrong with your application in
April.
If admitted, follow the acceptance date shown in your offer. NTU’s
current AY2027 calendar also provides an appeal window of 17 to
30 May 2027 for applicable applicants.
What
should you check before submitting your NTU application
Before clicking submit, run through this once:
Am I applying under the correct high-school
qualification?Do I meet the subject prerequisites for every programme I
selected?Does my qualification require IELTS, TOEFL, SAT, ACT, AP or
another test?Does my programme require a portfolio, UCAT, personal
statement, interview or reference? Is my application deadline 20 January or 19 March
2027?What is my separate supporting-document
deadline?Have I completed the S$25 international application
fee?If I am using ABA, are my responses and appraisals
complete?Have I budgeted using the latest confirmed tuition rather
than an outdated online figure? If I want the MOE Tuition Grant, do I understand the
three-year post-graduation work obligation?
This checklist is more useful than trying to memorise one “NTU
requirement,” because there isn’t one requirement that applies
identically to every international student.
How
can Masterclass Space help with your NTU application

Masterclass Space can help you work out which NTU admission route
applies to your curriculum and whether your academic preparation matches
the programmes you are considering. Its undergraduate
admission guidance can include programme selection, prerequisite
checks, profile assessment, testing requirements, Aptitude-Based
Admissions positioning, application documentation, interview or
programme-specific preparation and AY2027 deadline planning. As
experienced Singapore
admission consultants, the team supports international students
with study
abroad consulting built around Singapore’s universities,
including guidance on understanding the latest tuition structure and how
the MOE Tuition Grant affects the overall university decision. For
families who want structured, end-to-end support, premium
undergraduate admission consulting brings every stage together
under one plan. The goal is to make the application accurate,
well-planned and relevant to your actual academic background. NTU makes
every final admission decision independently, and no admission
consultant can guarantee an offer.
What
do students usually ask before applying to NTU Singapore
What
grades do you need to get into NTU Singapore
There is no single grade requirement for every NTU applicant. Minimum
requirements depend on your school qualification, while competitiveness
also varies by programme. For example, NTU currently publishes a 93%
minimum average for India Standard 12 applicants and an ATAR of at least
95 for the applicable Australian qualification route, but those figures
do not apply to applicants using other curricula.
Does
NTU have the same admission requirements for every international
student
No. NTU uses qualification-specific admission routes. An IB
applicant, American High School applicant and student with another
national qualification can have different academic, testing,
documentation and deadline requirements.
Do international students need IELTS for NTU
Not all of them. NTU requires English-language evidence for specified
qualifications and in situations where English was not the medium of
high-school instruction or was studied only as a second or additional
language under the applicable route. IELTS Academic is one accepted
option, with a current published requirement of 6.5 overall and 6.5 in
Writing and Speaking where the test is required.
Does NTU require SAT or
ACT
Not universally. SAT or ACT can form part of the requirements or
accepted English evidence for certain qualification routes, while other
applicants do not need either test. Always check your exact
qualification page rather than assuming NTU has one SAT/ACT policy for
all international students.
When is
the NTU application deadline for 2027
International applications for AY2027–28 open on 15 October
2026. Deadlines depend on qualification. IB, India Standard 12,
American High School with AP, UK A Levels, HKDSE and several other
routes close on 19 March 2027, while many other
international qualifications close on 20 January
2027.
How much is the NTU
application fee
The current undergraduate application fee is S$25 for
international students. NTU requires the fee and supporting
documents to be received within their respective deadlines before the
application can be processed.
What
are NTU tuition fees for international students
AY2027–28 fees have not yet been published as of October 2026. Under
the latest AY2026–27 schedule, most programmes cost
S$18,050 per year for ASEAN international students with the Tuition Grant and S$21,400 for other international students with the grant. Unsubsidised
fees for most programmes are currently S$36,350 non-lab / S$40,600
for lab-based courses.
Why are ASEAN
student fees lower at NTU
NTU currently publishes a separate subsidised tuition category for
ASEAN international students receiving the MOE Tuition Grant. The fee
category is different from the subsidised rate for other international
students.
Is
the MOE Tuition Grant compulsory for international
students
No. An international student may choose not to take the Tuition Grant
and pay the applicable full unsubsidised tuition fee instead. Students
who accept the grant receive subsidised tuition but must comply with its
agreement and service obligation.
What is the
three year Tuition Grant bond
International students who accept Singapore’s MOE Tuition Grant
generally agree to secure employment and work for a Singapore
entity for three years after graduation. This obligation is
part of the Tuition Grant Agreement.
Does NTU
consider extracurricular activities
Yes. Grades remain important, but NTU’s Aptitude-Based Admissions
pathway allows applicants with exceptional talents and achievements to
present additional evidence through short responses, achievements and
appraisals. Shortlisted students may be interviewed.
When
does NTU release undergraduate admission decisions
NTU says it generally begins sending admission offers from
March. Exact timing varies by qualification and
programme. For the AY2027 IB route, the published outcome window is
currently March to May 2027.
