About The Test

What is the TMUA?

The TMUA is a test of mathematical thinking in two compulsory papers, each 20 multiple-choice questions. Paper 1 asks students to apply mathematics; Paper 2 asks them to reason about it. The content is drawn entirely from A-Level mathematics, and the overall result is reported on a scale from 1.0 to 9.0. Like the ESAT, it runs in October and January.

It supports admission to Mathematics, Computer Science and Economics courses at Cambridge, Imperial, LSE, Warwick and Durham, and at Oxford now stands in place of the MAT
Several universities treat it as recommended rather than required, which means a strong score becomes a quiet advantage in a field where everyone holds top grades
