THE DIGITAL SAT IN THE UAE: BENEFITS, STRATEGIES, AND HOW IT ENHANCES COLLEGE ADMISSION OPPORTUNITIES
DIGITAL SAT EXAM IN UAE
With advancements in digital technology, today’s education systems are transitioning to digital platforms for standardized testing. Standardized tests are used as admission criteria for many universities worldwide, including the highly selective American universities. A digital testing platform has several advantages over traditional paper-and-pencil testing, including instantaneous score reporting, fast data collection, and less demand for physical resources. Therefore, universities and testing organizations are increasingly becoming interested in the transition from paper-based testing to computer-based testing. Although many previous studies have focused on the transition to digital testing, most are still practical and procedural. So far, little research has been done on the impact of digital testing on test scores and the test-taking process. This present study aimed to use unique data from both paper-based and digitalized testing to analyze the potential impact of digital testing on both test scores and individual test-taking behaviour.
Standardized tests are used as academic performance measures for college admission criteria in many countries, including the SAT in the United States. In the past, the SAT was a paper-based test; test-takers solved questions and recorded answers using a pencil on an answer sheet. Since March 2016, the possibility of taking the SAT digitally has been introduced. In this version, test-takers use a computer and click on the correct choice, after which the computer assigns the answer to the relevant question. The computer-based SAT has been increasingly implemented worldwide. In this present study, we focused on unique data collected during both the traditional paper-form SAT and the newly introduced digital tests, which have never been studied before.
