Which Exam is More Difficult?

The quick answer is that JEE Mains is harder in terms of concept depth. BITSAT is harder, in terms of speed and time pressure. Your preparation should address both dimensions, which are concept depth and speed. BITSAT and JEE Mains are both exams, and you need to prepare well for both BITSAT and JEE Mains.

JEE Mains is harder when it comes to concepts. The questions in JEE Mains need you to think a lot and apply what you know in a detailed way. You also have to solve problems in a way. Some questions require you to give a numerical answer without any options to choose from. This makes JEE Mains really tough.

BITSAT, on the other hand, is harder when it comes to speed. You have to answer 130 questions in 180 minutes. That means you have 83 seconds for each question. In comparison, JEE Mains gives you 144 seconds for each question. So BITSAT requires you to manage your time well and be accurate under pressure.

DO YOU WANT TO PREPARE FOR BITSAT AND JEE MAINS AT THE SAME TIME?

You want to know if you can get ready for both JEE Mains and BITSAT at the same time. The answer is yes. This is actually a way to do it. JEE Mains and BITSAT have a lot of subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. So if you prepare for JEE Mains first, you will already know 85-90% of what you need to know for BITSAT. Then you can learn the things that are just for BITSAT, like English and Logical Reasoning, about 3-4 weeks before the test.

Here is a plan you can follow:

Phase 1: Spend 8-10 months getting ready for JEE Mains. Make sure you really understand Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Phase 2: About 2-3 months before the test, start practicing English and Logical Reasoning for BITSAT. This way, you will be ready for both JEE Mains and BITSAT. You will do well on both JEE Mains and BITSAT if you follow this plan. JEE Mains and BITSAT are exams, so it is good that you are thinking about how to prepare for JEE Mains and BITSAT.

Phase 3: One or two months before the exam, take length mock tests for both JEE Mains and BITSAT separately. Remember that JEE Mains requires you to have an understanding of the concepts, while BITSAT requires you to be fast and accurate.

The key to doing well in both exams is to master the NCERT books first and then practice with advanced problem sets for JEE Mains. Once you have a grasp of JEE Mains, you will find BITSAT to be more manageable.

To do well in BITSAT, you need to have a strategy for managing your time and being accurate. Here's what top scorers do:

They use a 3-pass system.
  1. In the past, they solved all the easy questions they were confident about. They start with English and Logical Reasoning to get a confidence boost, and sometimes.
  2. In the pass they go back to the questions that require a bit of calculation or recall. They skip any question that takes a long time to solve.
  3. In the past, they attempted the difficult questions only if they had time left. They review their answers before submitting.

Some rules to keep in mind:
  1. Never guess an answer blindly, as you will lose marks for an incorrect answer.
  2. If your accuracy in tests is less than 80%, focus on understanding the concepts better before trying to increase your speed.
  3. If your accuracy is less than 85%, focus on increasing your speed and learning shortcut formulas.
  4. Aim to answer 40-45 questions per hour.
  5. Take at least 10-15 full-length mock tests for BITSAT under strict time conditions. Analyze your mistakes to improve.

So which exam should you choose in 2026?
Both exams are worth attempting. Since they are held on different dates, you can appear for both. The question is, which college do you want to get into?

Your goal will decide which exam you should focus on.
If you want to get into IITs, NITs, or other government colleges, JEE Mains is the way to go.
If you want to get into BITS Pilani, Goa, or Hyderabad, BITSAT is the choice.
If you are good at concepts and like analyzing problems, JEE Mains might be better for you.
If you are good at solving problems accurately, BITSAT might be better for you.
If you want to keep your options open and be flexible, preparing for both exams is the way to go.
